Beau DeMayo, the former lead writer of ‘X-Men ’97,’ was terminated from his role at Marvel after an internal investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior with staff. DeMayo was let go in March 2024, following the completion of the first two seasons of the Disney+ series, though initially, Marvel did not disclose the reasons for his dismissal.

On August 15, 2024, DeMayo claimed on Instagram that Marvel stripped his writing credit for ‘X-Men ’97’ after he shared fan art supporting Gay Pride, stating he needed to retreat from social media to seek a safer environment to express himself. “I’ll have more to say soon but must take a step back from social media to find a safer space for me to be out, proud, and nerdy. Stay tuned,” he posted.

Marvel clarified their stance in a communication to The Hollywood Reporter: “Mr. DeMayo’s contract was terminated following serious findings from an internal review. He no longer has any association with Marvel.”

Further allegations reported by Jeff Sneider from The InSneider include DeMayo sending inappropriate photos to younger male employees, posing in scant attire and mimicking sexually suggestive superhero poses. Despite being warned to stop, DeMayo allegedly continued his behavior, additionally accused of groping an assistant and exhibiting emotional and physical hostility towards his team.

Sneider also mentioned that DeMayo had previously been dismissed from his position on Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ for similar misconduct. Marvel is currently revising ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 and intends to remove DeMayo’s executive producer credits.

As of now, DeMayo has not commented on the latest allegations.
